I have had my aero garden for two years now ~ and it always has something growing in it from herbs to tomoatoes, lettuce ~ the only thing i haven't tried is flowers. The tomatoes grew quickly and produced lots of clusters. You must prune back or the plants take over and outgrow the planter. My garden lasted well over 6 months and just restarted with herbs. My only complaint is that the fertilizer ran out long before the plants stopped producing. It's the first thing people see and comment on in my kitchen..... Looking forward to more and more variety in seed packets!

I can't wait for the the tomato plants to fruit I have over 130 flowers on all three plants. They germinated in about three days. At first they grew kind of slow but once they got to there fourth or fifth leaf they grew very fast. The tomatoes branched out very fast after I pinched the top of them and flowered soon after. I am very happy with my results so far. I will put in another review when the the tomatoes fruit.

These grew so fast that in 37 days I was eating them and finally after 4 months they out grew the garden so I transplanted them to an indoor planter and added my own grow lights and they are still producing lots of tomatoes. I got mutliple clusters of tomatoes per branch. Check your water levels every 2 days because once they start producing they will suck up the water fast.
IMPORTANT NOTE: do like the instructions tell you and thin to 1 plant early in each seed pod, I didn't at 1st and tried to keep 2 going in each and shouldn't have. Also make sure to shake them everyday after you get your 1st blooms to polinate because it really works. Another thing to do, even though I didn't want to and probably waited too long, is to prune them back early. It kinda makes them look like you whacked them off too much, but it does make for a more compact healthier plant. I didn't early and now mine have out grown the garden. Raise your light often so they don't burn the leaves and if you can afford it, buy the extension kit, you'll need it.... trust me. Prune prune prune

These grew so fast for me, I had tomatoes in 4 weeks. I got clusters of 5 and 6 on multiple branches in no time. Taste so much better than store bought. Alot less expensive too.
When the Tomatoes start producing you will have to add water every two days. These grow so fast you will need to buy the Extension kit right away, trust me you'll need it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: do like the instruction say and : 1st - Thin to just one plant right away in each Pod.
2nd - Prune after plants are about 3 inches. (I delayed because they were looking so good and mine ended up outgrowing the garden very quickly).
3rd - Continue Pruning often, I know it might look like your whacking them too much, but if you don't they'll out grow your garden quickly and the plants actually thrive better after the Pruning and it makes for a more compact and healthier plant.
4th - Buy the extension kit, trust me you'll need it within 2 or 3 months. I didn't and had to rig up an extension of my own and it didn't work no where as good.
Because I didn't Prune early or buy the extention kit my plants out grew the garden in 4 months and I had to transplant them yesterday to a bigger planter I had to buy. plus Potting soil, fertilizer, some extra growlights and make a fixture of my own. An expense I could have avoided had I followed directions and pruned earlier.
In 4 months I have gotten over 80 tomatoes and right now there is at least 20 more on the plants that I transplanted.

At first it was hard finding a place where the plants would have darkness for 4 hours. Once found the plants flourished. Once the plants are mature and start flowering you need to check the water level often.

I got my AeroGarden 7-pod classic for my birthday slightly over a year ago, having first seen it in a kitchen store. Given that my kitchen is miniscule and the light in my apartment is virtually non-existent, this seemed to me to be the perfect answer to my love of tomatoes and dislike of the tasteless, expensive store-bought varieties available.

The Cherry Tomato Kit is my second crop, the first being the Gourmet Herb Kit (I would probably do a custom basil and chive mix next time). The idea of having fresh, home-grown tomatoes in the dead of winter just really appealed to me; however, procrastination reared its ugly head, and I'll have tomatoes in middle to late spring instead.

I love the fact that I had tomato plants in only four days. The growing directions are clear and concise, which is important because you have to do the pollinating or the fruit won't set. It was such a thrill to see those first blossoms appear, and even more of a thrill to see a whole new set of blossoms starting to appear.

The golden harvest plant seem to be the fastest and most prolific and the first ones are within days of being ready to pick.

The only real down side that I've encountered is that the classic 7-pod is just not tall enough, so it looks like I'm going to purchase the Deluxe conversion kit so that my plants will have more room to grow, and I'll add the trellis system, as well. Of course, then I'll have the option of growing full-size tomatoes and even cucumbers and such.

I'm really looking forward to years of use with this most amazing and useful gift (and I may even add another garden or two so I can grow tomatoes and lettuces and herbs -- instant salad)!

quick question to those who have transplanted tomatoes and such from the aerogarden to soil. Do you try to remove the plastic pod before planting or do you bury the whole thing without distrubing the mass of roots. Plants grew very slowly, only started to bare fruit after 6 months. After 7 and half months I recieved about 25 Cherry Tomatoes. The tomatoes tasted great. The only real complaint about this kit is that it took so long to grow, I used an entire pack of extra season nutrients. Plants lasted 10 months. Shaking the plants did not pollinate either, I needed to hand pollinate, I would recommend hand pollinating if you want a good crop. Overall an intersting expierance. Now I am growing Snow Peas in the aerogarden we will see how that goes

The tomatoes really did grow. It took them about a month longer than advertised, probably because my house is 60-70 degrees all the time and tomatoes like heat. But they finally did ripen with very little effort on my part, and now I have home grown cherry tomatoes in winter.

The cherry tomatoes had along harvest period. Also ran out of nutrients pills and it costs [$]s for more. One bulb are yellow tomatoes which died within two weeks. Some of the plants almost died a few times and took awhile for them to grow back.

Christmas gift for my elderly father, that has

This is a great kit for the winter, as you have great tasting tomatoes for 6 weeks or more. the kit is easy to start. You do have to prune, hand pollinate (shake the leaves) and make sure your light period is set correctly. The rest is easy though.

This is the second time I've used my aerogarden and the first for tomatoes.

This time they are growing in our basement/rec room because the noise bothers my husband. I was worried they wouldn't do well because the temperature is cooler than recommended.

They seem, however, to be thriving. I can't review the taste, etc., because they are too young to have even flowered. They are a healthy green, though, which is a wonderful respite from the lifeless vegetation in the frigid outdoors. I enjoy seeing the green life in our basement and the added bright light from the garden.

These are great tomatoes. I use both the aerogardens and also grow vegetables under lights in a potting medium. Leaving 3 plants in the Aerogarden, the two outer plants didn't get enough light and died. The center plant flourished and needed constant pruning. I rooted cuttings from the plant, and now have 7 producing tomato plants. Mama plant was remove from the Aerogarden, planted in the potting medium, and surprisingly did very well. She and her babies are all producing lots of fresh tomatoes for us.

I have tried a number of the seed kits, and they all do very well.

For a country boy who lives in the city, these cannot be beat for ease of caring, from initial planting to harvesting. The taste is just as good as any we have grown outdoors. There is a joy in watching the plants grow, the hands on approach in pollinating the flowers and waiting with anticipatioon the first fruit to ripen. The best thing is having great tasting fruits all through the winter.

Grew these last winter and got a modest crop. They probably would do better when the house is a little warmer in the summer. Some amount of continuous pruning and cleaning dead leaves when they get grown. The tomatoes tasted great though!

Cherry tomato plants grew well, produced large qty and quality. Had to rig up supports for the vines, even though they were cropped. I see they now sell supports which clip to the light. A better "bush" variety of tomato plant would be better choice for this kit.

The plants come up so quickly and start producing in no time. They product quite a bit of tomatoes and they taste like normal tomatoes. I had expected them to be "different". We ended up moving them outside, one to a regular pot and two to our hydroponics garden in April and just now - November 15th pulled them. They were still producing but it had slowed considerably. Every few days I had a small bowl full of tomatoes all summer long. The plant stays small and compact. Perfect for anyone who has little space to garden.

Well this is my 5th tomato garden so far. This time around it has outgrown the height of my AeroGrow unit. I've had to cut several big stems loaded with fruit. IF that is a 'problem':)

It still has months worth of tomatos to grow and ripen. The only 'problem' is, AG should try an all yellow,and an all red tomato seedkit. And maybe some new tomato varieties,so we can have a wider seedkit selection.

I love the cherry tomatoes. I plant them in early spring. Once its warm enough outside I transplant them to containers in my back yard and I get a lot of tomatoes for my salad. I reap a better harvest if I don't crop them too much. I just let them grow.

I currently have another set of cherry tomatoes growing. The little booklet that comes with seed kit is very helpful in producing beautiful, strong, sturdy plants. Just follow the directions for pruning and you will have yummy tomatoes. Just walk by the aerogarden and pick a juicy cherry tomato for a delicious snack. The aerogarden makes a terrific night light. Owning one isn't enough but I ran out of space.

Unlike all my other Aerogarden crops, my tomatoes didn't do so well. I think it was the lights, which gave out towards the end of the tomatoes' lifespan. Also, the pump was a bit plugged up and wasn't circulating as well as it could have, which I found out when I cleaned the garden. So it was disappointing, but also taught me valuable lessons.

I have to say, the Aerogarden makes a really interesting and unique tablepiece! The plants on a table or in a corner of your house are intriguing and a good conversation starter. Besides that, it is so easy to take care of. My mom says the cherry tomatoes that are harvested from the plant are delicious (I'm looking forward to mini jalapenos myself, my mom is the cherry tomato fan!). I find, though that I actually have to thin out the plants once in a blue moon, as they tend to grow very bushy and block their own light a lot.

I look forward to getting unusual seed kits with this appliance. I wish I had room to put another one somewhere!

Between 1979 and 1984 I tested the plastic box with Volcanic rock, and a clumsy lamp which had to have reflective foil to add proper lighting. Someone was experimenting with a waterfall effect and the geodesic dome project was failing.

Finally! Somebody got the idea for putting the water fall underneath. No more rocks and hard to clean tub or clumsy lamps and tinfoil to spoil the edges of the leaves when they get to big and touch.

The cherry tomato kit has different growing directions than the herbs -- but as long as you follow instructions, you will get dozens and dozens of little, delicious, fresh tomatoes for a long time. With my 1st tomato kit, I was hesitant to lop off the tops of the new growth and many stems grew away from the light (didn't matter -- I had it in a west window). Don't be timid about pruning and keep pollinating and you will be astonished at the results.

I got alot of yellow tomatoes but not many red tomatoes. The red tomatoe plants grew so much faster and taller than the yellow. After my yellow produced about 20 tomatoes it started to die, I then had to cut it off so the others could continue to grow. I had trouble with the leaves drying up even though I added water every day. In my second planter I'm growing herbs and they are doing great. I have to prune back the basil every other day as it is growing much taller & faster than the other herbs. Love having my herbs to use anytime.

My whole family loved watching these grow! I received daily updates from my kids about where the tomatoes were growing and how many looked ripe. I too was disappointed at first that you could only grow 3 plants, but aerogrow is right. I had trouble keeping just the 3 alive. Where ever the leaves started touching leaves from another plant they started to die. My center yellow plant did very well, but it overgrew my red plants. One of my red plants died just as the tomatoes were starting to rippen. Everything else was working, the yellow plant just got so big it over-powered it. My other red plant is still growing, but it has stayed small and only gave us a few tomatoes. I pruned the branches growing out of the hood area as recommended in the directions, but I think I will try another kit and be more aggressive about pruning some of the inner branches as well. Hopefully that will help.

I live in the country but on a cliff so it is rock and having an outdoor garden is out of the question because of that and the wildlife. Also, we have long winters here in Minnesota and it will be nice to have a garden during the winter.

I just LOVE fresh tomatoes off the vine in salads and stuff! These are awesome - way more than 1 person could use even eating them daily! I seldom cook with tomatoes because the rest of my family doesn't like them, but that means more for me! I can't grow anything, but I can sure grow these!

Love the tomato kit! I have bunches of tomatoes almost ready to harvest. They should be ripening any day now. It was easy to grow and follow the kit's instructions.

Some tips

1. Be sure to prune the plants as they say. It really does help them get strong
2. Be a bit aggresive when hand-pollinating the plants. I did not shake them enough at first and some flowers fell off.

Tomatoes are just in 4 weeks - have trimed & swished to polinate. Still to soon to tell but I've been thrilled with performance of other crops - lettuce (grows like crazy) & herbs. Can't wait to see those first tomatoes sprout!

The ease of everything involved with the AreoGrow is so nice for a fast paced household such as ours, it takes absolutely no time at all to take care of and everything grows so quickly. Our younger visitors love to watch it's progress every time they come over.

After transplanting the miniature roses this summer that came originally with my AeroGarden, I planted cherry tomato seeds, which I hope to harvest indoors this fall & winter for a fresh touch to cold-weather meals. So far, the plants have grown to ~8". Their leaves are luxuriant & deep green. No tomatoes yet, but I enjoy watching them come into their own. I also appreciate the sunny spot indoors that the AeroGarden creates, even on the grayest days outside. Quite cheerful!

I was amazed at how fast the tomatoes grew, and further surprised at their taste. I've done limited hydroponics in the past and have usually found tomatoes to be bland, but I was plesantly surprised at the great taste of these tomatoes! I disagree with an earlier reviewer who said there should be more plants, I almost think the growth and harvest would have been better with only two plants as they grow out over each other, you can't trim a branch when it's full of tomatoes, but it keeps growing in lenght covering the middle plant in many cases. I've harvested over 100 tomatoes, I joke with fiends my cost per tomato is now under $2.00 each and more are growing all the time. This is a great kit!

I was so excited to grow cherry tomatoes in my AeroGarden as I had already grown herbs and lettuce. I followed the directions to the letter, but after I thinned out the seed pots, only one plant continued to grow. The red cherry tomato plant that grew produced lots of great tasting fruit, but I really missed not having the yellow pear tomatoes grow as they are my favorite.

One of the best gardens I have grown! The tomatos sprout fast and grow faster. Nice tasty cherry tomatoes. Perfect to pass by them and pull a tomato off and pop it in my mouth! The only downside was 3 tomato seedpods per kit. That is the only bad thing about it. I managed to get 4 tomato seedpods to grow in it just fine. They should reconsider the number of seedpods per kit. Other than that,I couldn't find anything wrong with this garden.
