living in a cold weather climate for the winter season i can not grow the herbs i need and constantly use outdoors. I purchased the extra grow lights in order to never be without my Aerogarden herbs. This is my second one, bought from a friend's mother who didn't need it anymore. I'm just waiting for some wall space to put up a shelf to hold both at the same time! I LOVE having fresh herbs for my spaghetti sauces and other dishes. My only con for the herb kits is that the basil takes over. I think I'll use a pot for the basil from now on to let the other herbs grow better. Other than that, I love this product!

When I first got my Aerogarden, I didn't think about maintenance. Now, 2 1/2 years later, I take seriously the advice to change the grow bulbs regularly. I got MUCH better growth after I did so. These are easy to change; just turn off the lights, let them cool, slide the old ones out, and the new ones in. Voila! strong hardy growth again! Eventually the old bulbs will not produce enough light to foster anything but spindly plants. I thought there was something wrong with my seeds kits. If you are not getting good growth after you've had your garden a while, change your growbulbs!

I can honestly say that I have never seen a better pair of grow bulbs. The best part was that when you use them, the things that you need to grow actually grow, and the growth was outstanding. I've used a lot of products in the past, and none of them have caused as much growth as this product. But why take my word for it? I suggest you try them for yourself! I love this product because it keeps the herbs growing really big and tall. The best thing to grow in the Areo Garden is the herbs. I have been growing the Basils both the purple basil and the regular basil for almost 6 months now and I get alot of uses out of them. I use them in items I cook and love them on my fresh green salads. I can't find anything about my Areo Garden Bulbs that I don't like. Everything is great about the Bulbs and the Areo Garden its self.
The next Seed Kit I'm going to be planting in about 4 weeks is the International Basil. Can't wait to taste all the different Basils in this seed kit. I will tell you how it goes in about 2 months.

This product is excellent and very handy in cold weather areas like Minnesota during the winter. The only problem I am finding now is most stores are carrying the smaller units or ones that use the other type of bulbs, which are not universal. If your bulb burns out, you may have to wait a week before getting one online, [...].

Using new bulbs every six months is as important to garden care as adding water when needed.
It would be convenient to have a bundle pack of everything needed for your next garden - new seed kit, new bulbs, and a replacement filter - all in one package. This would mean less packaging material and cost, which could be passed on to us consumers.

I resisted buying new lamps. Even though the instructions state to replace the bulbs every 6 months, I figured I'ld be fine until they burned out. I ended up buying a pair and replacing 1 of the 2 lamps. I may not be able to tell the difference, but the plants sure could!
BTW the Aerogarden is s great product...it's going to have my spring seedlings next year, as I never could get them anything other then spindly until I saw how healthy these grew!

I received my AeroGarden as a gift from my mother-in-law last Christmas! Can't believe it's been a year and I'm STILL LOVING IT!! We've grown all types of herbs and lettuce! Having fresh herbs and tender leaves of lettuce I can put directly onto my plate is such a treat! I get LOTS of compliments on my plate presentations and the freshness of the flavors the herbs and lettuce have provided. I'm working on snow peas right now and can hardly wait! I put in the new bulbs for my snow peas and they are working like a charm! Easy to use, just pop them in! It didn't seem like anything was wrong with my old bulbs, but I'd rather be proactive to keep my garden in great working order! I recently had some friends over and they all commented on my AeroGarden. Boy, did I make some recommendations to others and they are taking me up on them! Go AeroGarden!

The bulbs are easy to install and remove. My garden is doing great. My one disappointment is that it is recommended to change the bulbs every six months, even if they haven't burned out. That seems very wasteful and pollutiion promoting to me.

The lights not only help grow fresh herbs they also act as an alarm clock if you set the timer so that they come on when you need to get up. The light helps you get started on a dark winter's day and then raises your spirt when you come home. Not bad for less than twenty dollars!

I've tried growing seedlings indoor before with "grow lights" from other companies with very little success. In the Aerogarden, my plants are growing great. They recommend that you change the bulbs every six months, but I live in a very sunny area, and have found if I replace the bulbs once a year in October for the dark winter and place the unit near sunlight, I still have plenty of growth through the summer.

The bulbs work just fine. Just two comments: It would be nice if there would be a way to tell when they really needed to be replaced rather than on a fixed time table. After all, different gardens have a different light on time. I also think they are a little too expensive especially when you sell a three bulb set for the same price. $14.95 would be more reasonable.

I have had my AeroGarden for about a year and have already produced a wonderful supply of herbs, tomatoes and various types of lettuce. When friends and family come into my kitchen, the AeroGarden always produces a smile on their faces. The AeroGarden makes people think of protecting the environment, happy times in a garden in their old neighborhood and sharing vegetables with their family members at the dinner table. Every night after I come home from work, my first thought is to see how my little vegetables are doing. But what makes the AeroGarden a complete pleasure and an Aero Hero is the service given to consumers after the purchase. As I mentioned, I have had the product for almost a year and I started to hear a noise in the motor pump. After a few weeks the pump completely broke down. I called the AeroGarden 800 # and was so happy to learn that the pump would be replaced free of charge and it was mailed out to me promptly. Good product plus good service makes AeroGarden an AeroHero.

When one of the bulbs blew out we made do without for a couple of weeks and you can see the difference in how the herbs were growing... they started slanting and seemed like the side without the light were starting to look like they were struggling... as soon as we got the new bulbs in, BIG DIFFERENCE, it took about three days for the herb plants affected to wake up and do their thing!... GROW!.. Awesome transformation... saved the BASIL plant which we use to make fresh pesto!

Got my AeroGarden as a early Mother's Day gift this year.I love to garden, but being wheelchair bound for 5yrs. has kept me indoors. I have Herbs in it now, and when cooking and it calls for basil in the recipe, the aroma is just devine! Have done basil pesto also. Then one of my grow bulb burned out,some of the herbs on the side with no light started a slow death of dying. I quickly sent for more bulbs,the order arrived in less time then I expected. Put in both new bulbs and hoped for the best. The next 12hrs. the herbs started to recover are now healthy and stronge. Lesson learned? Buy two of everything, grow bulbs, filters, water pump! And did I mention NO BUGS to chew you up or your garden? I hope in the future I can own two more. Thanks for the produce love it! a Happy AeroGarden farmer

I am on my second planting with my aerogarden. I didn't think that I was going to need to replace my bulbs already. When my tomato plants weren't coming up as quickly as I thought they would, I ordered some new bulbs. What a difference they've made...my tomato plants shot right up! I am really enjoying using my aerogarden. I grew herbs the first go round and used something from my harvest everyday for cooking. I can't wait to eat the tomatos I'm looking forward to seeing soon!

I love my Aerogrow but was unhappy with the short bulb life (3 months). It really threw the growing off [...]Since then I've seen them in several stores in the area and will be going to the stores. And I'll always have a bulb on hand before they burn out.

This is the first time I needed to replace original Grow Bulbs. Originals lasted over one year...maybe as long as two years. They were very easy to install and I highly recommend them.

AeroGrow Response: Although grow bulbs can last for a long time, they will degrade in strength over time. For best results, we recommend replacing grow bulbs every 6 months to produce quicker results and more frequent harvests.

Bulbs work great, but as with any light bulb, they can fail. One of my bulbs failed after one week. I notified Aerogrow and they immediately sent a replacement for not only the bulb that failed, but a complete set of two. Hard to find that kind of service anymore.

The "replace grow bulbs" warning light flashes LOOOOONG before the bulb goes out. Wait until the bulb goes out to replace the bulb and ignore the "replace grow bulbs" warning light.

Also, these lamps have MERCURY in them. Do not simply throw them in the trash (that is, unless you want your kids to have deformities). They need to be disposed of property through a hazardous waste facilitiy.

AeroGrow Response: We recommend replacing your grow bulbs every 6 months to get the most out of your AeroGarden. Replacing your grow bulbs will result in fuller, faster growth and more frequent harvests. Your grow bulbs will work after 6 months, but you will not reap the same benefits as if you were to change them out every 6 months.

My daughter was given a second-hand Aerogarden Classic with broken grow-bulbs. I bought new bulbs and set it up for her with the tomato pack.They were amazed at how quickly the sprouts appeared and grew. You just can't stop these gardens. I have raised tomatoes and lettuce with mine - I have never had so much success with indoor veggies as with these grow bulbs.

I was curious about the AeroGarden and asked for one for Christmas. After trying it out, we bought one for my mother and another one for my mother-in-law. They are both thrilled. I love the convenience of picking fresh, bug free herbs when I need them. My garden is so prolific that I have to cut "herb bouquets" just to keep them off the grow lights. The grow lights last longer than 6 months.

Although this particular review is for the grow bulbs,which also provide an awesome night light for me when I have to come downstairs in the dark, I must add that not only is my aerogarden useful in the kitchen by providing herbs and vegtables it also is my stress reducer and indoor hobby. I love having the garden in my kitchen and look forward to expanding my collection to flowers in the near future.
