And of course, it was a total mess, with roots all over the place and in the mechanism that the filters protect. These are so inexpensive so I replace mine every 6 months. If you do the sanitation with the bleach, it pretty much destroys them. Just replace every 6 months or each time you change gardens and sanitize.

the areo garden is great for herbs and lettuces they grow pretty fast. I had alot of herbs for a long long time and I used them in alot of my cooking.
I just recently started doing the flowers and it seems to take a longer time for them to sprout. The periwinkle flower are taking forever to sprout. Its been almost 2 weeks since I started the flowers and the others are doing ok. But not a very fast grower as the herbs and lettuces were.

These are an essential "part" to keep on hand. Sometimes you can't anticipate when you will need a new filter. If the root system of your garden was pretty extensive, you can wind up accidentally throwing out the filter with the old roots when you're getting ready for your new garden. This happened to me after growing cherry tomatoes. My old filter had been washed each time I replanted my garden, so it was time for a replacement filter. The ten pack was easily ordered online and very each to install. I know it is made for my garden and a quality product because it comes from aero garden. I can put a new filter in each time I start a new crop of herbs.

These filters are inexpensive, simple to install and seem very effective for this application.

The only negative thing that I can think of is that they come in packs of ten. Single-filter packs might be more useful, especially if they were an option when purchasing new seed-packs.

In my gardens that I grow herbs and short term gardens (3-4 months) I can wash the filter 1 to 2 times, for additional use before changing. On longer gardens (ex. tomato's, peppers) I have to change the filter when I change the garden about every 6 months.

They are easy to clean and change.

The Aerogarden is great - my only complaint is it's not bigger! In the future, it would be neat if you could "customize" your own seed kit (pick out 7 seed varieties (or multiples of the same) with similar growing conditions. For example, we don't use dill or mint that much, but would love an herb kit with multiple basil plants and a few other herbs of interest to us. We love the Aerogarden!
